Project Problem

Motorola Solutions set its sights on a new market by partnering with local police departments to monitor crimes through citizen-provided camera footage. This initiative aims to leverage the growing trend of community-sourced surveillance to enhance public safety.

However, since this represents an entirely new product line for the company, it will require comprehensive research and planning. Detailed market analysis, technological assessments, and strategic development are critical to ensure a successful product launch.

Competitive Research

The team at Motorola collaborated with researchers to gain a comprehensive understanding of how competitors are currently registering participants for their community camera partnership programs. Additionally, they examined the types of products being utilized.

Interviews

The next step was to interview industry experts. Several individuals were consulted, both as Subject Matter Experts and as representatives of agencies we would potentially partner with. Through these interviews, we gained valuable insights into their program requirements, camera viewing preferences, and other relevant information.

Product Creation Begins

After compiling the research data and presenting it to stakeholders, we received approval to proceed with product development. Our foundation for the next phase was built on insights from market research, subject matter expert interviews, future potential clients, and existing software applications.

Collaborative User Flow

After evaluating all the information gathered by the researchers, we initiated the first take creation of the user flow. This collaborative effort involved me as the lead designer, the technical product owner, and the sales team.

Revised Flow

After developing a collaborative user flow, we reviewed the process to ensure the best user experience. The sales team in combination with various agencies devised the following user flow that would intuitively guide the customer to where they need to be.

Low Fidelity Wireframes

Once the revised flow was approved, the next step was to create wireframes for the product layout. These wireframes would form the foundation for the site design, including the user interface, content writing, and branding materials. Below is an example of a wireframe where the user is going through the pre-registration process.

Green Lights

After collaborating with multiple stakeholders from both sales and technology, we finally received approval to transition from the low-fidelity phase to a more visually appealing design phase.

High Fidelity

It was time to start making this vision become a reality. The high-fidelity designs would incorporate the new brand and a custom design envisioned by me, based on the low-fidelity wireframes I created.

Marketing Materials

Marketing finalized their branding identity and provided graphic concepts to guide the high-fidelity designs. My task was then to integrate the UX content, approved UX wireframes, and high-fidelity designs using the established branding identity and components.

Project Solution

We successfully developed a product that enables county residents to sign up with the local police department to share camera feeds, purchase cameras for sharing feeds, or provide security information to collaborate with the police in making their community safer. This was achieved through an intuitive, configurable, human-centered design process.

Responsive for Mobile

The website and user registration process is fully functional and optimized for mobile. It offers a seamless user experience on smartphones and tablets, ensuring easy navigation and quick registration.
